Splinting in simple terms means tying of teeth together to provide stability.Teeth become loose due to several factors like trauma or accident,sports involving physical contact,age factors,teeth that become avulsed or pop out completely out of dental socket.
Whatever the cause of teeth becoming loose splinting does help to provide stability to mobile teeth or moving teeth.
Generally 4-6 teeth a splinted together using a thin wire.Wire that are used to tie teeth together is known as splint.
Duration of splint to be kept depends on the condition of splinted teeth.
However the general duration is anywhere between 3-8 months depending on the case involved.
Splinting involves 4-6 teeth tied together and composite is used to secure a splint in place.
Post splinting instructions are given to patient. Patient is advised to brush properly and avoid eating hard and sticky foodstuffs.General oral hygiene should be maintained well.
Follow up after 4 days is generally advised.
