Dental X rays

The X rays in dentistry are of prime importance to say the least. These days it's difficult to imagine dental work without X rays.

Clinical practice is more evidence based rather than clinicians judgement.Hence X rays have become of prime importance.

Dental X rays taken in patient mouth are known as IOPA(Intra oral periapical).

These give the dentist a clear picture of the teeth within the bone the number of roots the tooth has,any caries or cavities can be clearly visualized.
Any pathology within the bone can be seen like bone loss around the tooth, periapical infection.

X-ray's before extraction of teeth help the dentist plan it out in a much better and systematic way. This is especially true while extraction of wisdom tooth or third molar tooth.

It's impossible to tell how many roots a tooth has by just seeing a tooth in a patient's mouth.Dental X rays however makes it possible.

Dental X rays provide a hidden information about the tooth to a dentist that makes treatment planning much smoother and faster and diagnosis accurate.

Depth of cavity can be visualized, amount of bone loss around the tooth can be seen, angulation of tooth can be seen.

X-ray's are not only helpful before the treatment is initiated but also while the treatment, and after the treatment.

While Root canal procedure the X rays taken help is determining the root length.

After extraction X rays taken help in determining if any fragment of tooth has been left behind.

Cysts can bee visualized and it's size determined.

Perfectly white teeth from above have a lot of caries underneath sometimes. This underneath or hidden caries can be seen on dental X rays.

Any extra tooth within the bony socket can be seen.
Mesio dens is a tooth under the bone in between two central incisors. This can be seen.

Any old restorations can be seen and corrected if required.

There are other dental X rays which are taken outside the patients mouth. Those are extra oral radiographs or X rays.
