A combination of both milk teeth and permanent teeth is usually found in a childs mouth between 6-12 yrs of age.Its called Mixed Dentition stage exactly for the same reason.
During this phase teeth are not in proper alignment and one may find some spacing in between adjacent teeth.This spacing is physiological or in another words normal at this stage.
Permanent teeth erupt with resorption of their predecessor tooth root.Permanent teeth are larger in width and any spacing present gets corrected. Occlusal planes also get corrected with jaws growing in both vertical and horizontal plane.
Its important for parents to pay attention towards habits of their children.Prolonged thumb sucking leads to maxillary teeth protrusion and narrowing of upper jaw and mild to moderate flaring of maxillary anteriors.This gives rise to incomplete lip seal and mouth breathing.So if a child sucks his thumb beyond a certain age do consult a dentist immediately.
If at any stage one notices a cross bite it needs to be corrected immediately.
Consult a dentist as soon as possible.Usually maxillary anterior teeth are ahead of mandibular anterior teeth slightly by about 2mm.This is known as overjet. However if the condition is reversed it is known as Crossbite.
Mamellons are irregularities on incisal surfaces of maxillary and mandibular teeth.These are developmental irregularities and physiological.These wear away and flatten later.No treatment is required.
Milk teeth if decayed to a greater extent need to be removed.A space maintainer is required to keep the space intact to avoid drifting of teeth.
Erupting teeth sometimes do cause pain.This is also normal and no treatment is required.If the pain is significant mild anaelgesic may help.
