Ideally one should go in for a
dental check up every 6 months. Even if there is no pain in teeth get your
teeth checked every 6 months.
Once you go
for a dental check up provide your dentist with a complete medical history and
inform him or her of any recent health issues, even if they seem unrelated to
your dental health. Don’t hide the important facts of health like diabetis, cardiovascular
disease, seizures, any history of recent surgery, pregnancy, allergies to any
medications.etc.
All the important health factors should be disclosed to the dentist even
if one feels it is not related to teeth.
Have proper foods and eat healthy and follow habits mentioned below for proper dental and overall good health.
1.Eat a healthy diet to provide the nutrients necessary including vitamins A,C and D
2.Avoid cigarettes and smokeless
tobacco, as it contributes to gum
disease and oral cancer.
3.Brush twice daily and floss
once daily (regularly).You cannot be healthy without good oral health.
4.Dont use
mouth wash for prolonged periods as it
may cause discolouration of teeth.Use it occasionally.
5.Gargle after having any food or sweet or
snack.do not allow the food to stick to teeth which is a primary cause for caries development.
6.Visit a dentist every six months(biannually).
7.Avoid junk foods.
8.In case of using a chewing gum opt for a sugar
free chewing gum.
9.Do not brush teeth with too much excessive force. If brushed too forcefully the enamel
wears away and teeth appear yellow subsequently and develop sensitivity later.
10.Drink sufficient amounts of water and rinse after every meal or having snacks.
Oral health is not only important to your appearance and sense of well-being, but also to your overall health.
