Incomplete dental treatment

How often do we come across patients who disregard what the dentist says??Its due to lack of knowledge or negligience on part of patients that they discontinue the dental treatment mid way.An incomplete treatment is almost no treatment at all.
This is a very common scenario in India.Patients have some amazing and shocking reasons to discontinue dental treatment mid way. However its not in the benefit of your tooth to discontinue the dental treatment.Eventually the desired results are not achieved and many a times tooth needs to be extracted.Make sure you complete the treatment for the longevity of your teeth.

The most common reason why patients visit a dentist is due to severe tooth ache. The pain is so agonizing that  the patient expects doctor to get rid of the pain right away.Antibiotics and pain killers are prescribed to relieve tooth ache and dentist then schedules the appointment accordingly. In India medications given by the dentist are taken as prescribed and within a day or two the pain subsides. The patient is dramatically happy. Some patients do turn up for the scheduled appointment. But there are some who feel, the dental pain wont occur again and they skip their appointment. The pain might not occur for few days but after a few months the same tooth causes a lot of pain. Then the need to schedule an appointment.
Another common scenario is with multiple sittings root canal treamtent. The dentist in the first appointment takes care to drain away the existing infection and provides relief from pain. The patient then believes that the treatment is complete and since there is no pain he leaves the treatment mid way.Few months later again pain occurs and the need to visit a dentist or another dentist is felt.Very common in India is this situation.

Whatever the reason for skipping a scheduled appointment, its wise to take another appointment with the dentist and get the treatment completed.
