This procedure involves a lot of patience and is very tedious. The dentist does this procedure with a lot of skill and efffort. It should always be told to the patient that however good a denture is made it cannot be as durable as natural teeth.Initially the new set of dentures are diffficult to get adjusted to.But the patient must get used to it in order to use it more efficiently and effortlessly.
Some of the steps involved in making of dentures are as follows.
1.Making a Primary Impression of maxillary and mandibular ridge.
2.Border molding of special trays fabricated in lab.
3.Making a Final Impression after border moulding.
4.Jaw Relation.
5.Try in.
6.Denture delivery to the patient.
Primary Impression making:
Different sizes of trays are available. The Dentist examines patients ridge and an appropriate size trays are selected.Impression material usally an Impression Compound is manipulated and loaded into the tray. The loaded impression tray is then seated in patients mouth.
Border molding:
Special trays fabricated in lab is then checked for extensions in patients mouth. For border molding trays are usually kept 2mm short of the actual final border.Next the green stick is manipulated and placed sectionally on the borders of special tray.Sectional border molding is a preferred method of choice.
Making a Final Impression:
Once border molding is achieved with desired extensions the spacer wax is removed and tray is loaded with fianl impression material usally Zinc oxide eugenol impression paste. Then it is placed in patients mouth and appropriate movements are made.
Jaw Relation:
Wax rims are fabricated in the lab and placed in patients mouth. It is checked for lip fullness, free way space and other details.Patients is asked to bite in Centric relation and wax rims sealed.
Try in:
The sealed wax rims are then mounted on Articulator.Teeth setting is done and then sent to a dentist. The dentist checks for occlussion, overjet, overbite, lip fullness, speech and once found appropriate sends it to the lab again.
Denture delivery to patient:
The lab fabricates the Dentures, polishes it to achieve a highly glazed surface. The dentist then checks for high points, corrects it and recalls patient the next day.
All required instructions are given to patients and any discomfort is corrected gradually.
As stated earlier dentist does all his best to make as natural a denture as possible to patients. However with proper usage the patients gets used to new set of dentures handed over to them by the skilled dentist. So use them regularly. If problems occur visit the same dentist and get it sorted out till one is comfortable.
